National Flag will fly half-mast today; condolences pour in on demise of Union Minister Ananth Kumar

Government of India with profound sorrow announced the death of Ananth Kumar, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers and Parliamentary Affairs, on 12 November 2018 in Bengaluru. As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the Centre has decided that the National Flag will be flown at half mast in Delhi and Capitals of all States and UTs where it is regularly flown, today and on the day of funeral at the place where funeral takes place. It has also been decided that the State funeral will be accorded to the departed dignitary.

” Sad to hear of the passing of Union minister and veteran parliamentarian H.N. Ananth Kumar. This is a tragic loss to public life in our country and particularly for the people of Karnataka. My condolences to his family, colleagues and countless associates,” tweeted President Ram Nath Kovind.

The Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu also condoled the passing away of the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Anant Kumar. In a message, he said that Kumar has been a valued colleague of him for years, right from the times of the students’ movement to the Parliament. A reputed parliamentarian and a captivating speaker, his personality was multifaceted, he added.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn about the untimely demise of the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Anant Kumar. He has been a valued colleague of mine for years, right from the times of the students’ movement to the Parliament. He was a committed nationalist, a celebrated and loved leader and a good administrator. A reputed parliamentarian and a captivating speaker, his personality was multifaceted. His illustrious career and the long list of his accomplishments in public life bear testimony to the selfless service he offered to our country. His demise is a big loss to Indian democracy and polity. I pray that the almighty gives strength and courage to his family, friends and loved ones to get through this very difficult time. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti,” said VP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences on the passing away of Union Minister Ananth Kumar and said “Extremely saddened by the passing away of my valued colleague and friend, Shri Ananth Kumar Ji. He was a remarkable leader, who entered public life at a young age and went on to serve society with utmost diligence and compassion. He will always be remembered for his good work. I spoke to his wife, Dr. Tejaswini Ji and expressed condolences on the passing away of Shri Ananth Kumar Ji. My thoughts are with his entire family, friends and supporters in this hour of grief and sadness. Om Shanti.”
