Star icon of Tamil Nadu Kalaignar Karunanidhi passes away; Condolences pour in as mark of respect to legendary leader

The legendary leader from land of Tamil Nadu Kalaignar Karunanidhi passed away on 7 August 2018, while his family, party men, fans and the entire nation prayed for him! An iconic star icon turned statesmen Kalaignar Karunanidhi left a void thats very difficult to fill, as condolences pour in as mark of respect to legendary leader!

President of India Ram Nath Kovind tweeted his condolences:

Extremely sad to learn of the passing of Thiru M. Karunanidhi. A doyen of our public life, as a contributor to the development of Tamil Nadu and of India he has few peers. Our country is poorer today. My condolences to his family and millions of well-wishers

Vice President of India- Venkaiah Naidu tweeted his condolences as:

“I am grieved by the passing away of Shri M. Karunanidhi, one of the leading and longstanding politicians of our country who left a mark of his own during his long public life of about 80 years including 56 years as Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.”

PM condoles the passing away of Kalaignar Karunanidhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the passing away of Kalaignar Karunanidhi. “Deeply saddened by the passing away of Kalaignar Karunanidhi. He was one of the senior most leaders of India. We have lost a deep-rooted mass leader, prolific thinker, accomplished writer and a stalwart whose life was devoted to the welfare of the poor and the marginalised,” said PM in his condolence message.

“Kalaignar Karunanidhi stood for regional aspirations as well as national progress. He was steadfastly committed to the welfare of Tamils and ensured that Tamil Nadu’s voice was effectively heard. I have had the opportunity of interacting with Karunanidhi Ji on several occasions. His understanding of policy and emphasis on social welfare stood out. Firmly committed to democratic ideals, his strong opposition to the Emergency will always be remembered. My thoughts are with the family and the countless supporters of Karunanidhi in this hour of grief. India and particularly Tamil Nadu will miss him immensely. May his soul rest in peace”, the Prime Minister added.

Loved by the Tamilian people, Kalaignar strode the stage of Tamil politics, like a colossus, for over 6 decades. In his passing, India has lost a great son. My condolences to his family as also to the millions of Indians who grieve for their beloved leader tonight.

“The country has lost a  great visionary, and dynamic and inspiring leader who had worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the underprivileged and ensured equitable socio-economic development for the people of Tamil Nadu,” stated  Rakesh Bharti Mittal, President, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), condoling the demise of Dr M Karunanidhi, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and President of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Chennai Mittal said.
“During  the tenure of Dr Karunanidhi as Chief Minister over many terms, industrial growth in Tamil Nadu had progressed remarkably well. CII has worked closely under the guidance and leadership of the former Chief Minister. Several key initiatives were taken through his inspirational direction and strong encouragement,” stated the CII President, adding that “These contributed greatly to industrial development in the state.”
Mittal referred to notable programs where CII partnered with the late Chief Minister such as District Development Plans, Southern Districts initiative in Tamil Nadu, Development of IT parks in Tier II Cities and ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu in partnership with the State Government.  “CII was deeply privileged to benefit from the inspiring and proactive ideas and initiatives of Dr Karunanidhi. Industry in the state will always miss his towering personality and erudite guidance,” said Mittal. He added that the former Chief Minister had honoured CII by participating in flagship initiatives such as the CII Partnership Summit in 1998 and 2010.

FICCI condoles the passing away of Thiru. M. Karunanidhi, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Thiru Karunanidhi was certainly one amongst the most iconic political stalwarts in the history of Tamil Nadu politics.

A 5-term Chief Minister of one of India’s most progressive States, Thiru Karunanidhi has immensely contributed to Tamil Nadu’s economic scenario and industrial development. Thiru Karunanidhi’s contribution to the fields of Tamil Literature and Cinema will forever be etched in history. It rightfully earned him the title of Kalaignar, which will remain for perpetuity. FICCI conveys its heartfelt condolences to Thiru Karunanidhi’s bereaved family, the DMK Party and all his well-wishers.
