Apart from addiction to social media, what is now mushrooming is a different addiction, this time it is with online games. Playing games for long period of time on any source, namely, playstation/ laptop or smartphone envisages not just health issues but behavioural. Though it is believed that playing games give a time-out from the daily snags of life, helps in rejuvenation but these petty perks are outweighed by its dreadful hazards.
Online games promote a sedentary lifestyle which is a root cause for so many lifestyle diseases (obesity on the top). They drift the mind away in the virtual world, promoting isolation in the real world. Even it is difficult for the adults to keep away from these alluring games. Like the candy crush saga that became a rage, most of us will still have a pending request for the same.
Game addiction is not an alien word in the western world but now it is fast disseminating in eastern countries.

It is a fifty day long game that comprises a challenge to accomplish each day to the ultimate 50th dare to take away once own life by the very own hands. Spooky isn’t?
Till now it is claimed that blue whale has taken the toll of suicide to 150 worldwide. What is making it more difficult to handle is its target as its population, the vulnerable teenagers. Adolescence is one such age where an individual has to combat between identity and role confusion (being an adult or a child). Therefore, children take pride and a sense of accomplishment when completing those tasks while playing in the virtual world. This leads to addiction, the extent of which the whole world is witnessing.
The government in many nations are taking stringent possible steps to nail such nuisances. Government in different countries are leaving no stone unturned to troubleshoot this hazard. Special emphasis is put forth on the contribution of the parents to council their wards.
Parents also need to watch out for signs of addiction, to name a few:
- Social withdrawal
- Prolonged time spent on gadgets
- Excited on clearing a level in certain game etc.
- Find excuses to spend more time playing games
- Eye strain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Gamers thumb
Parents have to be vigilant for these signs. But addiction to games like blue whale must not be tolerated. Every life is precious and particularly these teenagers are the future of any country, thus, government are trying their level best to win over the ulterior motives of these life threatening games and safeguard the brilliant and shining prospects of any country, i.e., young minds of children and put an end to this so that nothing can stoke up any such disaster.
