President of India inaugurates Mass Yoga Demonstration on 3rd IDY @ Rashtrapati Bhavan
The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated a mass yoga demonstration to commemorate the 3rd International Day of Yoga at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 21, 2017. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that on the initiative of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi the UN had declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga. This year, the 3rd International Day of Yoga was being observed. He said that yoga is an ancient Indian practice which is very useful for curing many diseases and health disorders. It is a holistic approach to physical and mental health and well-being. He welcomed all participants to the mass yoga demonstration and urged them to practice yoga everyday as a fit mind and fit body is the abode of God. Officers, staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan and their family members as well as residents of the President’s Estate participated in large numbers in the mass yoga event.
Prime Minister attends mass Yoga demonstration programme at Lucknow
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, participated in the mass Yoga demonstration event in Lucknow where he was joined by a huge number of people. Addressing the gathering at the iconic Ramabai Ambdekar Maidan in Lucknow, the Prime Minister reached out to people in all parts of the country connected through Yoga. He said, Yoga is a practise that binds humanity together and is helping countries across the world to be connected with India. Yoga is a medium to achieve wellness and it has the power to provide health assurance at zero cost, he said. The event at Lucknow was attended by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik; Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath; Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Prasad Maurya; Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Dinesh Sharma; State Minister (Independent Charge) Ministry of Ayush, Dharam Singh Saini.
On the occasion of International Day of Yoga, the Ministry of AYUSH organised mass yoga programmes in Delhi in association with NDMC, DDA and eminent Yoga organisations. In Connaught Place, New Delhi, NDMC used drone cameras for aerial photography and videography of the Yoga demonstrations. Many partnership organisations like, Art of Living, Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Vivekanand Yogashram Hospital, Brhamkumari, Isha Foundation and Gayatri Parivar participated in the Yoga day celebrations in various places in Delhi. Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting, M. Venkaiah Naidu participated in mass Yoga demonstration in Delhi. Other Union Ministers participated in mass Yoga demonstrations in various states of the country.
MHA conducts extensive events on 3rd International Day of Yoga
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) organised various activities across the country on the occasion of International Day of Yoga today. About 2000 CAPFs personnel have participated in the mass Yoga demonstration today at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The officials of MHA participated in the mass Yoga demonstration at various locations in Delhi. The personnel of Paramilitary Forces, Border Security Force (BSF), The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), SSB, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and many more pitched in with enthusiasm to showcase India soft power in form of Yoga
Indian Air Force gears up to spread Knowledge and Practice of Yoga @ 3rd International Day of Yoga
For commemorating the 3rd International Yoga Day, Indian Air Force has issued directions to all its Air Force Bases for befitting celebration on 21 Jun 17 for promoting ‘Knowledge and Practice‘ of Yoga. During ‘Man Ki Baat’ on 28 May 17, Prime Minister had desired that efforts should be made to encourage participation of ‘Three Generations’ together towards the commemoration of 3rd International Yoga Day. In view of this, IAF has trained over 800 air warriors as Yoga instructors for undertaking in house training of Air Force personnel, families and Air Force School children.
Mass Yoga demonstration and practice is planned at New Delhi at Air Force Station New Delhi and Vayu Sena Vatika at Gurugram for IAF personnel and families of Air Headquarters and nearby Units. The itinerary includes reading out the message of Prime Minister, introductory talk on importance and health benefits of practicing Yoga, Yogic exercises and meditation. Similar events are also being held at other Air Force Stations all across the country.
Ministry of Tourism undertakes mega fam @ 3rd International Day of Yoga
A group of 53 international guests comprising of tour operators promoting Yoga, Journalists and photographers, Yoga Gurus and opinion makers from across the globe have been invited by Ministry of Tourism on a familiarisation trip. The group will participate in the main IDY celebrations to be held on 21st June at Lucknow in which the Prime Minister is participating. The group will then visit various Yoga institutions and Wellness Centres in the country in order to have a first hand knowledge and promote India as a destination for Yoga in their own countries.
The Indiatourism offices overseas are organising and playing a prominent role in the organising of International Day of Yoga celebrations in the countries under their jurisdictions. Indiatourism offices in India, Institutes of the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) and Indian Institutes of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) will also be organising International Day of Yoga events.
HRD Ministry organised Yoga Olympiad
Yoga is a way of living that aims towards ‘a healthy mind in a healthy body’ and to inculcate the benefits of yoga in our everyday life the Ministry of Human Resource Development has taken various initiatives to promote it among the masses specially the students and faculties in all parts of the country on 3rd International Day of Yoga (21st June, 2017). Yoga Olympiad 2017 is the Second Olympiad involving school children from upper-Primary to secondary stages will be organised by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) from 18th -20th June, 2017 at NCERT, New Delhi.
The idea behind conducting an Olympiad is that it should feel like an Olympic Sports event or peace run in the field of yoga. The message intended through the yoga Olympiad is to achieve peace, harmony and love in collaboration. The Yoga Olympiad will be organised by NCERT along with the Regional Institute of Education (RIEs) this year. The theme for the Yoga Olympiad is ‘Yoga for Health and Harmony’. The objective of the Yoga Olympiad is to understand the yogic practices to apply it in one’s life. It aims to develop a healthy habit and humane values in children. It also intends to develop physical, emotional and mental health through yogic activities.
Ministry of Women and Child Development takes 3rd International Day of Yoga celebrations to 100 million grass-root level participants
The Minister of Women and Child Development, Maneka Sanjay Gandhi kickstarted the International Day of Yoga 2017 celebrations in Anganwadi Centres by taking part in a yoga session with Anganwadi children and the official Mascot Yogiraj of IDY 2017 at an Anganwadi Centre at Peeragarhi in New Delhi on 18 June 2017. About 150 children participated in today’s Yoga awareness and celebration event at the Anganwadi centre . The officials of Ministry of Women and Child Development also participated in Yoga sessions enthusiastically .
Anganwadi centres across the country will be participating in the International Day of Yoga celebrations. The Ministry of Women and Child Development has taken up the initiative of imparting awareness about the benefits of yoga to about 100 million beneficiaries through 13.52 lakhs anganwadi centres nationwide. Not only this, the children at the Anganwadi centres will also be instructed to practice yoga on a regular basis to ensure a healthier future. All the CCIs in the States/UTs have also been instructed to observe this international day for stress free and healthy life.
The special feature of the said function was the official life-size yoga mascot Yogiraj for International Day of Yoga 2017, who performed Yoga along with the WCD Minister and the children. The children were enthralled with the performances of the Yogiraj who also made the children do fun yoga asanas and did Yoga dance for them . Children from Dance Out Of Poverty (DOOP ) performed YOGMOB at the event . Also participated in the events the mascots of FSSAI Master Sehat & Miss Sehat who educated children about Safe & Nutritious Food . It was not only a visual treat for students but a very informative interaction . FSSAI has launched its campaign Safe & Nutritious Food @ School which caters to these kids and the initiative is bringing awareness to a great extent through these life size mascots .
Ministry for Science & Technology launches Mobile App to connect people through Yoga for scientific healthy living @ 3rd International Day of Yoga
Minister for Science & Technology Dr. Harshvardhan launched a Mobile App “Celebrating Yoga” developed by Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology in New Delhi on 19 June 2017. The Mobile App has been developed by DST on the occasion of International Yoga Day 2017. The purpose of the APP is to popularise Yoga and encourage people to participate in it for a scientifically healthy living.
Healthy life of citizens improves productivity and economy of the country as a whole. Practicing Yoga is a means of maintaining a healthy society in harmony with nature and fulfil developmental aspirations. This aspect of quality of life is aligned with the National Mission “Swasth Bharat” of the Government of India. The Department of Science & Technology has launched a research programme “Science and Technology of Yoga and Meditation (SATYAM)” under its Cognitive Science Research Initiative (CSRI). As Yoga and Meditation are interdisciplinary endeavours that interface with Neuroscience, Medicine, Psychology, Engineering, Philosophy etc., YOGA can contribute in a holistic way to derive integrated benefits.
Celebrating Yoga provides a platform to share information and insights about peoples’ participation in Yoga activities on the occasion of the International Yoga Day 2017; create awareness and encourage a scientifically healthy living.

India furthers quest to protect Ancient and Traditional Knowledge of Indigenous Medicinal Systems
With Yoga inscribed in UNESCO’s representative list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, India is now further enhancing its efforts to protect its traditional knowledge of Indigenous medical systems. According to the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, ShripadYesso Naik reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on start on the Monsoon Session in July 2017- Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) is a pioneering Indian initiative to prevent exploitation and to protect Indian traditional knowledge from wrongful patents mainly at International Patent Offices. India’s rich and time-tested traditional medicinal knowledge which exists in languages such as Sanskrit, Hindi, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Tamil etc. is neither accessible nor comprehensible for patent examiners at the international patent offices.
TKDL contains Indian traditional medicine knowledge available in public domain and pertains to classical/ traditional books related to Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha in a digitized format and is available in five international languages (English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese). Till date 3,35,260 formulations have been transcribed, 220 wrongful patent filings have been prevented and 12 patent offices have been provided access to TKDL database namely European Patent Office, US Patent Office, Japanese Patent Office, German Patent Office, Canadian Patent Office, Chile Patent Office, Australian Patent Office, CGPDTM (India), UK Patent Office, and Malaysian Patent Office, Rospatent (Russia)and Peru Patent Office.
Under the Scheme funds are provided only to CSIR, the implementation agency of the TKDL Project. No funds have been allocated/ released to any State under the Scheme. Indian Patent Office has also brought out Guidelines for processing Patent Applications relating to Traditional Knowledge and Biological Material to help Patent examiner to analyze what constitutes novelty and inventive step in Traditional Knowledge (TK) related invention.
