Within India, the central India is such a ripe market, where a little structured and strategic intervention can mean strong double digit growth for leading players in the travel domain.The big players in the travel trade knew about the potential of the central India market. Global Panorama Showcase @ 2017
The fifth edition of the B2B travel event is all set to commence with Nagpur edition from January 19-21, 2017, and then move to other strategic cities in July and August 2017. In 2016, the event had four new editions namely: GPS Ahmedabad, GPS Chandigarh, GPS Kolkata and GPS Coimbatore and witnessed unique travel trade visitor registration of over 3,000 people, firmly cementing GPS as a premier B2B travel event to reckon with for the Tier II and Tier III cities of India. This year- GPS 2017 will take place in six cities namely: Nagpur (January 19-21), Ahmedabad (July 13-15), Chandigarh (July 20-22), Kolkata (July 27-29), Kochi (August 3-5) and Pune (August 10-12). One day will be dedicated to learnings and workshops, alongside the business meetings that will take place over the three days.

The impact of incumbent election of the Travel Agents Association of India towards the end of 2017 is a little to immature to be speculated this early. But, the previous election results did had a benevolent bearings on the future of the Global Panorama Showcase, a regional travel exhibition that has gone on to capture five cities originating out of Nagpur as told earlier. In 2015, Harmandeep had rendered his candidature for post of TAAI President-Ship with Team Parivartan highlighting the need to bring about an imminent change at the helm of affairs at TAAI, which fights for the rights of travel agents without any other vested motives. Also the team with him, at the same time had promised to look at creation of new set of possibilities for the NexGen travel agency entrepreneurs according to him.
He had lost the said contest, but didn’t loose his determination. “Building on business and brands will be my focus, if not the 2015-17 term,” he had said in a candid interaction then. Its a well known fact that the warrior faction that is believed to branched out of Hinduism- Sikhs- stands up to their promises and same had been the case with Harmandeep Singh, who has won many hearts and conquered many new secondary markets with his GPS exhibition.
Most importantly, Harmandeep has engineered a bankable team. In 2016 show, Raju Akolkar was appointed as the CEO and Tanushka as an ED. Akolkar was one of the brains behind the TAAI election campaign of Team Parivartan in 2015, which almost achieved its target and was appreciated across the board. The little genius- Tanuskha almost single handedly heads the entertainment quotient at the GPS exhibitions, which is the backbone of the show, if not more!
This edition will see formal welcome to Ankush Nijhawan, MD of Nijhawan Group, as its Executive Director. Ankush’s love for sports car’s and investing in emerging businesses is very well known. In fact, this factor can actually transform the entire GPS-platform into a global platform. Not to forget, starting from Rishiraj, Madhu and Manohar- the entire team powers the show unlike any other.
Networking smooth and fun unlimited, but the battle is still to be won
The networking opportunities are smooth and worked on in every GPS edition. Roughly speaking, its fair to expect 100 quality exhibitors at the Nagpur and half the size of exhibitors at the new editions in other satellite towns. Travel agents witnessed some global launches like the Dream Cruise campaign in 2016 at GPS. After work, the delegates look forward to let their spirits lose for unlimited fun at the post show entertainment session and dinners, which is either Bollywood or cosmopolitan themed.
But, the battle is still to be won! Unless, one is willing to risk the reputation of being a specialist outbound show- GPS still needs to factor in support from the state tourism boards, as much as love it gets from NTO’s. Also, the start of the show has to be reworked, which starts with a little off schedule and lasts quite long. More incentive to participate in the industry session thereafter shall add more value and balance the flow of event in the exhibition and the presentation arena.
